Stages of design thinking: 1) Empathize, 2) Define, 3) Ideate, 4) Prototype, 5) Test and 6) Evaluate and reflect. Its multi-stage approach engages people of all skill sets, ages, backgrounds, knowledge base and understanding for creative, collaborative solutions. It’s a methodology that helps people solve problems and discover new opportunities. Design thinking is a best-practices model developed at Stanford University’s d.school and taught at universities worldwide, as well as employed in corporate world.
One Stone’s innovative approach is rooted in design thinking. One Stone does not charge tuition, dues, or fees, ensuring that programs are accessible to any high school student who wants to be a better leader and make the world a better place. Alongside caring adult coaches, the students have developed innovative initiatives that grew out of the desire to help fellow students use their voice to change the world. As active participants in the governance and direction of the organization, with a board of directors comprised of at least two-thirds students and one-third adults, students are in the driver’s seat. Among these is One Stone itself, an independent, tuition-free high school unlike anything else in the nation.īut One Stone didn’t set out to be a school. We now serve 170+ students from more than 17 different schools across the greater Boise area. One Stone was founded in 2008 with the belief that students could make a real difference if empowered to follow their passions. One Stone does not charge membership dues or fees, ensuring that our programs are accessible to any high school student who wants to be a better leader and make the world a better place. Our program empowers high school students to learn and practice 21st century skills through experiential service, innovative initiatives, social entrepreneurship, and the radical reinvention of learning. One Stone is a student-led and directed nonprofit that makes students better leaders and the world a better place. This is possible through the generous support of the businesses, foundations, corporate partners, and individual donors who believe in our work. One Stone offers all programming at no cost to kids and families to ensure equality of voice. We serve approximately 170 teens from 17 different schools through our community based programs (Project Good, Two Birds, and Solution Lab) and our independent high school.
